Arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport, HCMCity, Vietnam, Southeast Asia
We have traveled since February 1995 and nearly annually to Saigon to give patient consultations, provide free facial surgeries, and teach about facial reconstructive surgeries. This trip was our latest where we went to two different facial surgery specialty hospitals in Saigon District 1 and Cholon District 5 in HCMCity.
Many of the patients’ needs this time had to do with cleft lip and palate repairs, facial fracture repairs (especially from motorcycle accidents), and facial tumor removals, reconstructions, and tissue grafting. This time there were more people battling various forms of facial cancers – solid tumors and metastatic skin cancers.
It is tough to witness these people with great, ongoing needs for care. They persevere through many trials and still try hold on to hope.
